London Trip 2013

At the start of the half term break the Humanities team embarked on a weekend trip to London with 40 Year 11 students. The aim of the trip was to educate students about multiculturalism whilst also being entertaining.

It was an early start, leaving Mullion at 4am on the Friday, but despite it being the middle of the night the students were full of beans and extremely excited about the trip- there was not much sleep on the bus!

Our first stop was the Jewish Museum where we had the great privilege to meet a Holocaust survivor called Freddie Knoller. Freddie told us about his time spent as an inmate in Auschwitz, walking and surviving the famous ‘Death March’ and finding true love after the war. Everyone was really touched by Freddie’s story and his optimistic outlook on life which was truly inspirational.

In keeping with the theme of multiculturalism we also visited Camden Market to sample some of the international cuisine on offer and the Tate Modern Gallery. After a quick trip up the River Thames on the Clipper Ferry we enjoyed a pizza before the evening’s activity- The Jack the Ripper Tour!

Saturday’s activities mainly focused around a trip to the Docklands museum, followed by a walking tour, led by Mr Davey around most of central London; including Convent Garden, China Town, Leicester Square, the Houses of Parliament and much more.

The students were an absolute credit to the school, their behaviour was impeccable and their attitude and enthusiasm un-wavering! Well Done.
