Year 7 Football Vs Helston

A fledgling, inexperienced Year 7 team had their first two matches this week, on Tuesday 28 and Thursday 30 January.

Following a defeat to an excellent Penair team on Tuesday, Mullion went to Helston College to play an 11-a-side game. Overall, the boys showed a great deal of heart and commitment. They went down to 2 early goals, and their character was tested. The Mullion boys picked themselves up, organised and worked hard. They managed to solidify and began to demonstrate shape and show the tactical awareness which will see them develop into a good team in the future.

Despite the eventual heavy 8- 1 defeat, the young players never gave up the ball cheaply, pulled together and actually made some decent inroads into the Helston half. Max Wilson took advantage of his more central second half role to get on the end of an excellent diagonal ball from Louis Barrowman; he still had much to do, but finished immaculately.

There were a number of excellent performances, such as Dan Tripconey, who is proving a strong influence at the back, Josh Broome and Josh Gilbert in the centre of midfield. The man of the match though, was certainly Ethan Thirlaway, who was outstanding at the back.

Training will continue on Tuesday (all welcome) and we are due to play at Truro School on Wednesday.

Thanks to the parents for turning out to lend support.

Mr Fergus
