Y11 trip to Royal Cornwall Museum

Despite dire weather forecasts we had a smooth and peaceful  journey to the Royal Cornwall Museum, enhanced by the fact that our bus was able to drop us outside the entrance (door to door service!).

On arrival we were greeted by a member of the museum staff who took us to a base room, where we were able to leave coats etc. and, later on have lunch.

The students were divided in to 3 groups and, during the course of the day, were able to rotate around the 3 main areas of the museum, recording information to help with their responses to the GCSE Externally Set Assignment Theme of FORCE. They soon found that almost everything they saw could be connected to the theme in some way and were able to select images which interested them, through drawing, sketching, photography or written descriptions, from a diverse range of Artwork and Artifacts, ranging from an Egyptian Mummy, to real birds in flight, to mining equipment, to the stunning sculptures by Seamus Moran and much much more!

Hopefully there will be many ideas that are sparked off by this experience, in conjunction with the follow up work that we have planned for subsequent Art lessons.

As we were leaving, museum staff commented on how well behaved our students had been and on the pleasure it gave them at this quiet time of year, to see the RCM come alive (!)
