Y10 Hockey Plate Final

The game started strong for Mullion, the clear underdogs in the final against Penair. Our defense communicated well with Tegwyn Hagan, Tiona Anselmi, Jenny Lea and Alice Bowman all keeping Penair out of the D and getting strong balls up to the attacking players. But with 15 minutes left before the first half whistle the defense slipped up, allowing Penair’s left midfield to drive the ball in and take a clean strike on goal which, goal keeper, Lucy Green couldn’t get a kicker to.

But still, the Mullion side kept their chins up and kept pushing for the ball in the attacking quarter. Mullion knew after having 80% of the possession and no short corners against them, as a reflection of Mullions standard of play, they could still win.

The Great British Weather made an appearance with a flash hail storm distracting the Penair side, allowing Hattie Drummond to push the ball past the keeper bring the score equal. 1-1 was the story for the majority of the second half but 5 minutes from the final whistle Penair found a strike that the defence just couldn’t stop bringing it to 2-1.

A valiant effort from Emily Weir and Sophie Wallace in the midfield let Mullion push forward again getting a third short corner of the match for the away team. Rebekah Hosking, and Nell Savage all had very good chances on goal aided by Lila Stewart-Roberts’ great running down the right wing. Unfortunately we couldn’t equalise. Lucy Green had an amazing save with a minute to go leaving the final score at 2-1.

The home team were shocked by the determined and courageous Mullion squad. A wonderful performance and a great way to finish a positve season. Well done YR 10. What a team!
