The yr 10 Resistant Materials students have used the software package 2D Design throughout key stage 3, but this year the students get to put their drawing to use with Bertha. Each student has designed an image to be cut out on their individual oak blocks.
The students then have to independently set up Bertha ready for use. This involves positioning their oak block in Bertha and setting up the options for depths and cutting tools. In year 11 the students are expected to be able to use Bertha totally independently within their Controlled Assignments.
The photos show the simulation process run through on the computer prior to manufacture and the block positioned on the bed of the machine.
