Congratulations to the U.14 basketball squad that played in the Partnership tournament last week. There had been a lot of apathy, particularly from Year 9 students towards basketball so far this year and our lunchtime club was made up of mainly keen year 8 students. However the KS3 inter-house competition did reveal some talent within the year 9 and we were able to take a competitive squad of 10 students to the competition.
Six schools entered the tournament and they decided that we would all play each other in short 10 min games. We beat Helston quite comfortably 6-0 and then had a scrappy game with Camborne winning 4-2 but missing some good opportunities. Pool were next and dispatched quite easily 14-0. A small, but skilful Penryn were our penultimate game and we were able to make our height tell under the baskets to come away with a 6-2 victory. So Richard Lander were our final opponents and they too were unbeaten. In the end their talented County player (son of the tournament organiser) was too difficult to stop and his 10 points were enough to beat us 10- 4. Nevertheless an excellent effort from the squad and hopefully this will boost their interest to continue practice ready for the next tournament.
