South West Girls Rugby Tournament

An eventful day, for sure. The 4 hour travel up to Somerset was a long, tiresome one. Miss Bunyan and Mrs Bolton led the way, with 12 eager girls rearing to go. When we arrived, a warm up session was needed, and then we were ready to begin our first round of matches.

Our first match was not so successful against Forest E-act Academy narrowly missing a win, 4 vs 3. This was such a shame after some great tackling and attacking play. The second match was against Winterbourn School, exchanges of lead on a number of occasions took place. Clearly both side were determined to gain a win. The final score was a well deserved draw as both sides played a fierce and competitive game. The final match, of the pool, was against QE Academy which unfortunately was a lost of 3 vs 5, but again throughout this game the girls demonstrated real determination and drive to stay in reach of the final score. Sadly this meant that the girls were last in the pool but this clearly didn’t reflect how much hard work, determination and team work they all demonstrated.

At lunch break, unfortunately, Indigo Underwood became ill and could not play the next 4 matches in the second pool. This became the girls drive and inspiration to attempt to gain tries as a tribute to Indigo who was on the side line.  Inspired to take on the challenge, the girls went onto smash all of the remaining 4 teams, with the team collectively scoring a high number of tries in each game,  tremendous victories and as a result the RFU officials personally mentioning how well the Girls played.

Due to this exceptional performance in the last remaining games the girls were  announced 5th in the South West. An outstanding achievement by all the girls involved.

Well done.
