Penisula Partnership Surf Competition

Five competitors ranging from Years 8 -10 took up the challenge of the Peninsula Partnership Surfing Competition at Godrevy. On what started out to be a cold, blustery day with a good swell, the five brave competitors took on the challenge of the mixed aged group competition.

Oscar Morteson Cave was the first of the 5 students to venture into the surf, competing in the Boys Year 10 & 11 competition. Oscar managed to secure a couple of waves in some tricky surfing conditions and narrowly missed out on going through to the quarter finals.

James Lagdon and Sam Lewis then made their way to surf and competed in their first round of competitions. James secured third place in his round but unfortunately was knocked out of the next round. Sam on the other hand managed to come second and proceed to the quarter finals, closely followed by him making the semi-finals and then finally the final. Sam battled against the ever changing conditions to come fourth overall in the competition and successfully secure his place at the Cornwall School Games.

Tyler Donovan followed in the first round of the girls competition competing in a large category of Yr7 -11 Girls competition. Tyler paddled to the back of the large messy swell and caught a number of great waves to help her progress to the next round.  Again Tyler demonstrated strength and endurance in the ever change conditions and convincingly made it through to the final. Tyler battled against three Yr11 students and secured a well-deserved second place and an automatic entry into the Cornwall School Games in June.

The Final event, and only member of the team to be a body boarder, Tyler Briggs, smashed through his first round of competition and gained straight entry into the semi-final. Again Tyler body boarded extremely well and gained a place in the final. Tyler had a hard final struggling to secure decent waves, however he managed to gain fourth place and again a place in the Cornwall School Games in June.

Well done to all who took part.
