New Year Gymnastics fun

January saw two competitions take place at Mullion Gymnastics CentreĀ

for the Mullion Primary sports cluster.

The first was for Key Stage 1 on Wednesday 15th January, this competitions was based on the Key Steps Gymnastics routine and over 30 children from Mullion, Garras, Cury, Landewednack and Sithney Primary Schools competed. The overall competition was won by the team from Mullion. After the competition was over, the children were able to have a fun play on some of the equipment including the fastrack (the only such piece of equipment in this area) and the much loved foam pit to finish off the day.

The following day saw Key Stage 2 children from the same schools attend the event. This competition however was bigger as there were categories for teams from both club gymnasts and non-club gymnasts compete in the Key Steps competition. There were some impressive displays from both club and non-club teams as they competed in the vault and floor categories. The club competition was won by Mullion whilst the non-club was taken home by Landewednack. Congratulations to both teams who go on to represent the cluster at the Peninsula Partnership round of the School Games.

In the absence of the Cluster Coordinator Mr Loder, Cluster PE and Sport assistant Jake Lane oversaw the events and said “What a fantastic couple of days for the children, Mullion gym and the sport itself. To see so many children of all ages and abilities competing over the two days was absolutely brilliant and we are so fortunate to have such a wonderful facility right on our very doorstep. I would certainly encourage anybody who enjoyed the competitions to get in contact with the team at Mullion and give it a go!”

A big thank you must go to the team at Mullion Gymnastics Centre for hosting and running the competition, to Mullion School for providing two excellent teams of sports leaders over the two days and to the Primary School staff and pupils for attending this event making it such a success.
