Events at Mullion School

National Sports Week including Sports Day

The late June sunshine that baked the Lizard Peninsula during Sports Week was enjoyed to its fullest by the pupils of Mullion School who were taking part in the annual National School Sport Week. The PE Department organised a week long programme of sports events. This gave all pupils the opportunity to take part in competitive sport and win points for the hotly contested inter house competition.

The week started with pupils competing in the Field Sports Day on Monday where the houses competed in athletics field events and indoor rowing. Tuesday had the Track Athletics and Rounders competitions whilst on Wednesday the school hosted the Tennis and Duathlon competitions and the Cornwall School Games ran the County Gig Rowing Championships. Thursday was a rest day for the pupils ahead of the main Cornwall School Games on the Friday. This event took place in the Truro area and Mullion School sent our Basketball and Projectability teams to this event.

Mr Loder (Head of PE) was delighted with the level of participation and sportsmanship on display throughout the week and thanked the students and staff for all their hard work and passion. Thank you to Mr Lagdon who once again, sponsored the medals that were awarded during the week.

The competitions in school all win points for the house competition which is hotly contested each year. Prizes are also awarded to the top athletes, Victor and Victrix Ludorum, in each year group. This competition was particularly rewarding for one family with Adelaide (Y10) and Jodi (Y7) Swanepoel both winning Victrix Ludorum. The overall athletics trophy was once again won by Budoc, however there were numerous wins in the Duathlon, Rowing and Tennis for the other houses and over the whole of National Sports Week the houses were very closely matched.

The only negative from the week was the defeat of the ageing staff 4×100 relay team by the outgoing Year 11s.
