Mullion vs Hayle match report

Mullion came to Hayle in the second round of the cup hoping to maintain our 100% record so far after wins against Camborne in the previous round and then a 3-0 demolishing of Helston 2 days later. Mullion knew it was going to be a tough game but our determination didn’t lack. Our defenders consisting of Max, Joslin, Steve and Charlie defended solidly and prevented Hayle from scoring. Mid way through the first half Jack Harris unleashed a strike from 20 yards out and flew into the top corner to put Mullion 1-0 up. Our confidence increased and 5 minutes before the half time whistle Hayle were caught sleeping and Mullion, with a superb counter attack, doubled the lead with Jack Price slotting into the net. In the second half Hayle scored 2 goals in 15 minutes to send the game to extra time, after Mullion left chances begging. Extra time was closely fought and in the dying seconds Mullion put the ball in the net after Jack’s free-kick struck the crossbar. Celebrations were in full swing until their own linesman put his flag up for ‘offside’, meaning our last minute goal was controversially disallowed. Penalties it was! The linesman again made a controversial decision when Will Gibson in goal apparently saved a penalty only to find he had jumped illegally. This mattered not as he saved the following spot kick. Unfortunately for Mullion Hayle edged on Penalties and won 8-7. Well played Mullion, we feel hard done by.

Man of the match: Ryan Tonkin, excellent work in centre midfield.

Well done all
