Inter faith Day 2014

To mark Inter Faith Week the Humanities department organised an Inter Faith Day for all year 7 students.

The day began with an assembly where students were able to find out how different senses are used in worship and also discover some facts about different faiths that exist across the UK.

Students then took part in a variety of activities including the making of Buddhist prayer flags, Hindu Rangoli patterns and Jewish Dreidel. They also helped to make a 12p meal of dhal and rice with Ms Smith.

At the end of the day all the students gathered back in the main hall and sat down to share their meal in a tradition known as Langar within Sikhism.

We thoroughly enjoyed the day and comments from the students were also very positive.

Student comments:

Sean Collins 7B: Interfaith day was really fun with loads of different activities. We made Dreidels which they use within the Jewish religion with Mr Davey, we made Rangoli out of coloured sand with Mrs Norton, we cooked Indian food with Ms Smith and made Buddhist Prayer Flags with Miss Moreton. At the end of the day we all sat down and ate the food that we cooked and some people dressed up and wore Indian clothes. It was lots of fun.
Sky Stewart-Roberts 7R: Interfaith day was an inspiring day for all of us! Learning different faiths and religions just led us to realising how much there was out in the world. I think experiencing what different foods, beliefs, rituals, and traditions each religion has helped us understand each and every religion. It was really fun to make our own religious pieces and now we can imagine what it would be like to follow and commit ourselves to a religion! I now know and am prepared to find and meet new people in the world!
