Great comeback delivers back to back wins for Mullion!

Mullion turned up at Redruth  the capital of Cornish rugby and anticipated a tough game. After the kick-off Redruth were looking strong in the Mullion 22 but a brilliant turnover by the forwards and an excellent last second pass from Taro Bean sent Arthur Relton racing up the middle of the pitch to score under the posts. Eddie Dark then converted to make it 7-0 but it wasn’t long till Redruth responded with a try of their own which they converted to make it 7-7.Despite some strong tackling from Mullion, Redruth ended the half on top with 2 unconverted tries to make it 7-17.

Mullion received the kick-off and knew it was all to play for. It wasn’t long before they asserted themselves in the Redruth half after a tap and go sent Jack MacLeod racing down the wing only to just be tackled into touch. Then after a messed up line-out by Redruth there was a scrum 10 meters out. Robin Blight-Anderson got the ball quickly out of the scrum and passed it to the fly-half who thanks to a great diversional run by Ben Smitheram made the space for Arthur to dive under the posts and was converted to make it 14-17.Clever play by the centres Taro Bean and Ben Smitheram sent Arthur haring down the touch-line and dive in, in the corner but it was unfortunately unconverted making it 19-17. Eddie dark then produced a brilliant kick down field which resulted in a penalty for a tackle off the ball. Arthur then took a tap and go to score out wide to complete his four tries, the score was then 24-17. Redruth kicked-off and the forwards Javier Gomez, Eddie Dark and Toby Goddard made some very strong runs to keep the score at 24-17 till the end. Overall it was a brilliant team performance with a great team spirit to comeback from the half time deficit.
