Action Packed Week for Mullion Cluster Sports

An action packed start to the new half-term  was enjoyed by pupils of the Mullion Sports Cluster. Two events were scheduled for the week which involved pupils from Year 1 to 6 saw Mullion, Cury, Sithney, Garras and Landewednack schools engage in passionate, friendly enjoyable competition.  Firstly they travelled to Mullion Comprehensive for the inaugural Badminton event then later in the week the swim gala.

Year 10 Sports Leaders led the badminton event which was their first opportunity to do so and they did a fantastic job of it.  Mr Loder was once again delighted with the caring, positive and professional manner in which the teenagers worked with the younger pupils.  The Y3/4 competition was a circuit of badminton skills and associated fitness skills and was won by the late entry barbarian team made up of children from Cury and Landewednack schools who were given the name CLandy.  The Y5/6 competition was a combination of singles and doubles matches where players rotated on and off every minute of play thus ensuring all had a chance to play.  This competition was won by Cury school who were unbeaten in all eight of their matches!  A fantastic achievement for the small school who now join the CLandy team in representing the Mullion Sports Cluster in the Peninsula Competitions next week.

On Friday the schools were again involved in sports competitions this time in the pool.  The schools and Year 11 Sports Leaders travelled to Helston Sports Centre for this year’s gala which included KS1 pupils for the first time.  The youngest pupils competed in races across the width of the pool including very exciting horse-ride and motorbike noodle races!  The Y3/4 pupils swam traditional strokes over two widths whilst the oldest pupils raced over a length.  The quality of the swimmers was very good and it was lovely to see tired smiley faces wearing their medals and clutching certificates with pride.  Mr Loder thanked the teachers who supported their teams in a busy environment and the Year 11 students who took full control of the races and medal ceremonies.  The KS1 competition was won by Cury; Year 3/4 by Garras and Y5/6 by Landewednack.   Swimmers from this competition will go forward to represent the Cluster in the Peninsula competition.

Good luck to all the teams in the next round of competitions.  The next event for the Cluster will be on 1st December which is a Reception and KS1 Cross Country event to be held at Mullion School.
