Latest News:

In Yr9 we hope to have a drama day for A&T french students  probably in February 2010.

About 40 students  from Yrs 9, 10, and 11 will be entering the Intermediate Maths Challenge in February.
Also 2 Yr9 students will take part in the Maths Masterclasses at Truro early next year. They are Shamus Birch and Ewan Richardson.

Over 70 students from our Year7 and 8 top sets are entering the Junior Maths Challenge on April 29th.

We have also entered a team ( 4 from Yr8 and 9) in the Team Challenge event at Penair School in Truro on April 30th.

Able and Talented

We classify 'able' pupils as those that are in the top 10% of our students of each Year group in the more academic subjects like Maths, Science, History etc. 'Talented' students are those that are performing well in the more creative subjects and performing arts such as drama, music, art and of course sports. Again as a guide this is roughly judged as 10% of each year group.

We have a register of students that have been identified by subject teachers. This register is reviewed in January of each year. Some students will move off the register and others will move on as their performance dictates. The register is not set in stone and some students will occupy a 'grey area'  as the assessment is in part subjective.

Each subject area will have identified students in their area and within their schemes of work are developing a variety of extension and enrichment activities in which to challenge their more able and talented students.

Events:

1. Ongoing courses are offered by SWGate ( a joint venture between Plymouth and Exeter Universities).

These are mainly for school groups but parents or students may be keen to attend an event and with parents help we may be able to support groups of students taking part.

2. Creative writing day for Yr 10 A&T students from Mullion School and Helston College at Mullion on Fri 11th December.

This is a course run by Anne Roberts, a lecturer from Exeter University, aimed at stimulating creative writing through the use of sounds and the media, such as magazines, films and art. The 7 students from Mullion are James Basher, Tom McCabe, Sharlie Lawlor, Chloe Roberts, Geoff Nattrass, Asa Maynard and Emily Woods.
